FC Dallas defender Herman Johansson has been added to Sweden's 2026 World Cup squad as an injury replacement for Emil Holm. Sweden, led by Graham Potter and featuring Viktor Gyökeres and Alexander Isak, qualified through the UEFA playoffs and open Group F against Tunisia in Monterrey on June 14.
F C Dallas defender Herman Johansson has made Sweden's squad for the 2026 World Cup, called up as an injury replacement for Emil Holm. Sweden, led by former Premier League manager Graham Potter, reach the tournament after qualifying through the UEFA playoffs, their 13th appearance and a return after missing the 2022 World Cup.
A first major tournament for Johansson
Johansson, who has two caps, broke into the national team during the 2026 World Cup qualifiers and will now represent Sweden at a major tournament for the first time. He moved to FC Dallas in December 2025, providing two assists in 14 matches, after helping Mjällby AIF win the 2025 Allsvenskan title. He was already at Sweden's Stockholm camp as the reserve before Holm's injury opened a place in the final 26.
Gyökeres and Isak lead the attack
Potter's squad is headlined by Arsenal striker Viktor Gyökeres and Liverpool striker Alexander Isak. Sweden are in Group F and open against Tunisia in Monterrey on June 14, before facing the Netherlands in Houston on June 20 and Japan in Dallas on June 25.
The expanded 48-team tournament, co-hosted by the United States, Mexico and Canada, runs from June 11 to July 19. The top two from each group advance, along with the eight best third-placed teams.
