MetLife has hosted the 2025 Club World Cup final between Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain and the 2016 Copa America Centenario final between Argentina and Chile.

New York Attorney General Letitia James and New Jersey Attorney General Jennifer Davenport have jointly subpoenaed FIFA over ticketing for the 2026 World Cup at the New York New Jersey Stadium (formerly MetLife). The probe centres on seat-map changes made after sales began, alleged misleading communications and face-value prices that reached $10,990 for the final. Resale tickets for the final have appeared above $2 million. California AG Rob Bonta opened a separate inquiry earlier in the month.

Mayor James Solomon has unveiled a four-event 2026 World Cup celebration series that turns Jersey City into a distributed fan hub from the opening-week Flag Cities festival to a "world village" final-day party. All events are free and the programme runs at no cost to taxpayers, backed by RWJBarnabas Health, KRE Group, LeFrak and Choose New Jersey.
